1. When should I book my wedding dress alterations?

Earlier than you might think.

We recommend contacting your alterations specialist well in advance of your wedding, particularly during Cape Town's busy wedding season. You don't necessarily need to begin altering the gown months in advance, but booking early ensures there is sufficient time available for the work your particular dress requires.

Complex alterations, hand-beading, lace work, corsetry or significant changes to the design naturally require more time than a straightforward hem or strap adjustment.

2. How much do wedding dress alterations cost?

There isn't a single standard price for wedding dress alterations because every gown is constructed differently.

Yes.

5. Can a wedding dress be made smaller or larger?

In many cases, yes — but how much a gown can be resized depends entirely on its construction.

Making a dress smaller is often possible, although significant size reductions can require much more than simply taking in the side seams. The bust, waist, hips, neckline, straps and proportions of the gown may all need to be reconsidered.

Making a dress larger depends partly on how much fabric or seam allowance is available inside the gown. Where there isn't enough, a more creative solution may be required, such as reconstructing sections of the bodice or changing the back closure.

This is why we prefer to assess the actual dress rather than promise what can be done from photographs alone.

6. Can you alter lace, beaded or corseted wedding dresses?

Yes. This is where specialist bridal and couture experience becomes particularly important.

Wedding gowns can contain multiple layers, boning, corsetry, bust cups, lace appliqué, illusion tulle and extensive hand-beading. Altering one seam can therefore involve carefully removing embellishment, altering the underlying structure and then replacing and hand-finishing the decorative work.

Often, yes.

Alterations don't necessarily have to be limited to correcting the fit. Depending on the construction of your gown, we may be able to remodel or customise elements of the design.

This could include changing a neckline, adjusting a back, adding or removing sleeves, adding straps, improving bodice support, adding lace or appliqué, modifying a train or creating a detachable element such as an overskirt.

More substantial changes are closer to couture remodelling than standard alterations and need to be assessed individually.

8. How many bridal alteration fittings will I need?
